Why Google Reviews Dominate Over Other Review Sites

Everyone has different opinions on which review site is most important to which industry, many often turn to Google reviews. You can visit one review site and see a different perception than another. Every day, more review sites come into play to bring new voices into the mix.

If you look at one review site, it might rate differently than another, and different people may find it more credible than another. Some platforms have different rules that change the dynamic and tone of the overall site.

We will look at the most important review sites out there and why most people pay attention to Google.

Online Review Culture on Yelp, Tripadvisor, and Amazon

The online review culture is different on Yelp, Tripadvisor, and Amazon. These are just a few of the largest review spaces.

This is because of the different ways in which these platforms are used.

Online review culture has evolved from the days of Yelp, Tripadvisor, Amazon, and Facebook. These four sites have different ways of handling reviews, and each site has its pros and cons.

Yelp

Yelp is a social networking site where people can share their thoughts on local businesses with other users. Yelp was created in 2004 by two former PayPal employees. It has grown to more than 73.9 million monthly unique visitors as of August 2018.

Yelp reviews are often personal and written by people who have been to the restaurant or hotel they have visited or stayed at.

Tripadvisor

Tripadvisor is a travel website that provides information about destinations, accommodations, restaurants, and attractions for every country in the world. As of November 2021, it had 988 million reviews from travelers worldwide, with around 463 million visitors as of February 2021.

Tripadvisor reviews are more likely to be from people focused on travel. You can find reviews regarding a place or activity in a specific area.

Amazon

Amazon is one of the leaders in product reviews.

Amazon is an online retailer that sells everything from books to clothes. You can find everything and anything on Amazon. It originally started selling books and evolved into one of its most prominent retailers.

Amazon reviews usually require investigating, as Amazon is the primary review site where people retaliate against a company or brand if they have had a bad experience with the product.

Website Reviews

Reviews on a business’ website are often their best ones, picked out from all of the review sites they are on. They are credible social proof of a business’ marketing claims.

How are Businesses Reacting to the Rise of Google Business Reviews?

As you can see, there are lots of review sites that are focused on a particular niche or industry. However, Google is rising to dominate most of the review market space and keeps business owners on their toes.

Google doesn’t limit itself to a particular industry — you can review almost anything within Google. Google offers nearly anything and sells everything.

Since Google is tied to the most powerful search engine online, businesses often care about their ranking and rating on Google’s business profile the most.
